Jean Goldkette on Gennett! It's a shame that he never
recorded his version of "Maple Leaf Rag". All the boys
said that he could play the hell out of it!
If they're still there we could make it an even
27 musicians. Perhaps these are the bass
players that Venuti called up?

Dancing Tram!
On left- More Nan Blackstone.
Above- Not Nan Blackstone, but she DOES seems like the
friendly type, eh?
Pops went on
a diet.
Dropped a ton
of weight!
Then he and
Margaret
wrote a book
called
"Whiteman's
Burden."
About losing
weight.
An excerpt from an interview with Bix's mother. Doesn't seem like she's
too ashamed of him, does it? For years after Bix's death, Tram, Hoagy,
Teagarden and dozens of other jazz greats would stop and visit Bix's
family when they played in Davenport. And they were always welcome!
Tennis Anyone?
Above- Ad from 1867.
Left- The banished shame
of Davenport writes a tune
about his hometown. It's a
pity that they never forgave
him. What's the name of
that festival they have out
there every year? Oh well,
It'll come to me..

I've got Three Jacks - PETTIS, FULTON & TEAGARDEN.
What have you got?
Dorsey had a couple of obsessions. One was bottles.
Tommy was the source of the "bottle story" and Bix. He
also loved to fight, well not to fight, but to hit people.
His favorite was to sneak up and punch someone when
they weren't expecting it. And if it was a horn player,
he'd aim for the mouth. He got tossed out the the
Graystone band for doing that to Fuzzy Farrar.
Notice that Benny was sitting down when Dorsey punched him?
Accidental? Not everyone thought so. Jimmy was a sweet guy, but
you couldn't push him too far!
1928.  Paul Whiteman Film. Huh?
Another dead banjo player story. His wife is sobbing at his side, A
tragedy that happens anywhere, anyday and anytime.
However she will be aquitted.
